Olfactory Receptors
Olfactory receptors are specialized G-protein-coupled receptors located primarily in the nasal epithelium. They detect odorant molecules and initiate the sensory signals that enable the perception of smell. Each receptor binds specific odorants, allowing the brain to distinguish a vast array of scents. Beyond smell, some olfactory receptors are also found in other tissues, where they may have additional biological roles.
